Mindfulness in libraries often gets misunderstood as something soft, slow, or optional.
In reality, mindfulness at work is a clarity skill—especially in high-interruption environments.
It’s not about being calm all the time.
It’s about not carrying every moment into the next one.
Three practical ways mindfulness shows up at work:
Before opening an email
Pause for one breath before reading. Reactivity drops when breath leads.
Between meetings or tasks
Place both feet on the floor. Drop your shoulders. Ask: What am I moving into next?
After a difficult interaction
Notice your hands, feet, and breath. No fixing—just noticing.
These moments don’t slow work down. They prevent unnecessary friction from building up.
Mindfulness at work isn’t about candles and cushions.
It’s about clarity, presence, and choice.
This theme will be explored further during my LLA poster session this week.
